Michael Badu

Michael was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, and began playing tennis at a young age at the local tennis club in Kumasi, Ashanti. He was the number one singles player for both his high school and university. Michael initially grew up playing soccer but decided to commit to tennis at the age of 12 when he became one of the top five ranked junior players in his country. He competed in numerous junior tournaments and was a champion in the West Africa Junior Championship.

 

In 1999, Michael moved to the United States to further his tennis career. He started playing in Boston, Massachusetts, competing in the New England sectional tournaments, the 5.5 men’s tournaments, and several Open tournaments. He also participated in Futures and Satellite tournaments in both West Africa and the United States.

 

One of Coach Michael’s career highlights was being appointed by the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center as an elite tennis professional. In this role, he coached at Arthur Ashe Stadium alongside Andy Roddick, Lindsay Davenport, and Tracy Austin during the 2022 US Open.

 

Michael is a certified USPTA and ITF coach who specializes in high-performance tennis coaching.

 

With a coaching career spanning 24 years, Michael began as a head pro in Easton, Massachusetts. He also served as the Director of Tennis at New England Sports Academy in Norwood, Massachusetts. Additionally, he coached the Sharon High School tennis team, which won three national championships.
